Baratza Sette 30 Coffee Grinder

SKU m-baratza-sette-30

The Baratza Sette 30 AP is the third version of the Sette Series. It certainly is not your average entry-level grinder, however it is relatively inexpensive and is suitable for basic to advanced espresso machines.

The Sette 30 AP and its innovative design provides the capacity to produce a consistent fine-grind with razor precision, speed and zero retention.

This powerful and compact grinder utilises technology such as the S1 AP 40mm steel conical burrs that sit inside more expensive variants of the Sette Models such as the 270W Grinders. With 31 steps for grind setting adjustments, you can alter your grinds to suit most brew methods.

Designed and perfected in Liechtenstein over a period of 8 years, this technology sets a new standard in simplicity, efficiency, and durability. The Baratza Sette 30 AP has been crafted with durable parts, materials and revolutionary mechanics.

The brand-new burr entry system eliminates grounds retention and coffee waste which will save you time and money. This new mechanism has the outer burr rotate and the inner burr is fixed, a truly revolutionary design.

The design of this mechanism doubles the efficiency of similarly sized grinders. This machine alos grinds at impressive speeds for something that is low-cost. 3.5g/sec for espresso and 5.5g/sec for filter.

The Sette 30 has a stationary device holder that allows you to remove and re-orient the arms to grind directly into the supplied grounds bin or a portafilter – a standout feature amongst all other home grinders.

About Baratza

Baratza designs their grinders in Seattle. Builds them in Taiwan, with precision burrs from Europe, and they are now distributed all around the world. Never happy with the status quo, Baratza unceasingly advances the design and functionality of their products.

Adjusting the Grind

Every grinder is different and has variable adjustment methods. Once you have figured out what direction will give you a finer or more coarse result, you’re on track. We only aim to adjust the grinder in small increments at a time, 3mm seems to work the best. Usually 3mm adjustments influence shot duration by 3 to 5 seconds.

Remembering when we change the settings we purge the machine to prevent retention of old coffee. After adjustment you run the shot, use the weigh in (dosage) and out method (yield), record the time for extraction and titrate to optimal extraction time. Step-by-step as follows

  • Decide what adjustment (finer or more coarse) you require and move the collar. Make sure you have enough beans in the hopper and that the close slide is open allowing beans through to the blades.
  • Turn on the grinder for 10 seconds and discard that grind (it will still be on the old setting).
  • Run a test shot keeping dose and tamp technique consistent.
  • Assess shot quality and extraction rate (even if it’s not perfect, have you improved it?).
  • Repeat as necessary until correct extraction is achieved.
